Guangong Cultural Tourism Festival kicks off in Dangyang

This year’s Guangong Cultural Tourism Festival and Guanling Temple Fair opened in Dangyang City today, showcasing the city’s unique and profound history and culture.
 

Guan Gong (160–220 AD), or Guan Yu, was an ancient general serving under the warlord Liu Bei during the late Eastern Han dynasty of China. Well-known for his loyalty and righteousness in the Three Kingdoms period, Guan Yu is still revered by many Chinese today.

Dangyang city has a deep connection with the Three Kingdoms period in Chinese history. The story of Guan Yu safeguarding Maicheng happened here, and it is said Guan Yu was buried in Dangyang Guanling Temple.
 

The 2023 Hubei Dangyang Guangong Cultural Tourism Festival is a sub-event of the 14th China Yangtze River Three Gorges International Tourism Festival. During the ten-day festival, a series of events will be held to promote cultural and tourism resources in Dangyang, such as riddle games, a lion dance competition, and intangible cultural heritage performances.

Since the 1990s, Danyang has held 32 Guanling Temple Fairs and 10 Guangong Cultural Tourism Festivals.
