On the evening of September 25, the opening ceremony of the 2023 Hubei Zhaojun Cultural Tourism Festival kicked off with a grand opening gala in Zhaojun Village Scenic Area, Xingshan County, Yichang City.
Wang Zhaojun was one of the “Four Beauties” of ancient China. She was born in the area of current Yichang City in the Western Han dynasty (206 B.C.-8 A.D.). Her beauty, along with her musical and dancing talent, was well-known across China.

Following the prelude of "Share the Beauty of the Moon,” the performance of the gala featured four chapters: "To Distant Places," "Nostalgia for Hometown," "Flowers in Full Bloom," and "Boundless Moonlight." The event concluded with a theme song and dance titled "The Same Moon." The program was filled with strong emotions related to Wang Zhaojun, elements of moon symbolism, and local elements of Xingshan County, leaving the audience captivated.

The 2023 Hubei Zhaojun Cultural Tourism Festival is a sub-event of the 14th China Yangtze River Three Gorges International Tourism Festival. To promote the legacy of Wang Zhaojun, ethnic unity, and economic development, 10 activities will be carried out during the festival, including a 1,000-person chorus praising Wang Zhaojun, an international forum, the annual meeting for the Zhaojun Cultural Tourism Alliance, a folk song competition, signing ceremony of investment projects in Xingshan County, and a Peking Opera performance.

The 700 delegates of the Zhaojun Cultural Tourism Alliance also attended the opening ceremony. They are from 10 cities across the Inner Mongolia, Shanxi, Shaanxi, Henan, and Hubei provinces - all ancient spots along the road which Wang Zhaojun traveled to marry the leader of the Xiongnu in 33 BC.

From January to August, Xingshan County received nearly 5 million tourists, a year-on-year increase of 23 percent, and achieved 3.45 billion yuan (US$472.2 million) in comprehensive tourism revenue, an increase of more than 21 percent compared to the same period last year.
