Tourism Festival begins with a spectacular opening ceremony

Yichang’s Lighthouse Square was transformed into a mesmerizing canvas of lights and colors on Saturday night, signaling the start of the city’s largest tourism event of this year.

With “The Virtuous Yangtze River” as its theme, the opening ceremony of the 14th China Yangtze River Three Gorges International Tourism Festival highlighted the history and culture of Yichang.

Musicians and performers from home and abroad staged a stunning performance. The gala culminated with a dazzling fireworks display that lit up the sky above Lighthouse Square on the eastern bank of the Yangtze River.

Locals and tourists, as well as onsite and online audiences, all spoke highly of the opening ceremony.

This year’s event, which will last 12 days, features 18 activities across seven categories, including the opening ceremony, cultural tourism, economy and trade as well as tourism promotion.

The large-scale tourism festival is jointly organized by the Hubei provincial government and Chongqing municipal government. Held for 13 years alternating between the two locations, it has become a staple in China’s tourism industry.
