Yichang sets goal to become Yangtze River protection model city by 2035
Yichang City has recently set the goal of becoming a Yangtze River protection model city by 2035.
Yichang lies at the junction of the middle and upper reaches of the Yangtze River and has long been known as the "Gateway to the Three Gorges.” In recent years, Yichang has restored the natural environment, shut down wharves, and upgraded infrastructure of its Yangtze River banks. As a result, the river has become greener and the surrounding landscape is back in harmony with the natural environment.
China’s Yangtze River Protection Law took effect on March 1, 2021. The law is formulated to strengthen the protection and restoration of the ecological environment in the Yangtze River basin, facilitate the effective and rational use of resources, safeguard ecological security, ensure harmony between human and nature, and achieve the sustainable development of the Chinese nation.
The restoration of the ecological environment of the Yangtze River has become a major priority of the country. A system is being established to reasonably reward protection and restoration of the ecological environment, while those responsible for the ecological environment destruction will be made to pay their due price.
