9th Hubei Farmers' Games wind up in Yichang

The 9th Hubei Farmers' Games wrapped up on April 17 in Zhijiang after two days of fun-filled and intense competition.
A total of 32 events were held in three categories: farmer gymnastics (dance), farm-themed events and a track & field competition.

This edition of the Games featured 12 new “farming sports”, including shooting hoops, carting grain, transporting pumpkins on a wheelbarrow, planting rice, pedaling water mills, fishing, harvesting fruit, climbing a hill and sawing wood.

A team from each city, prefecture or forestry district in Hubei province competed – a total of 842 athletes.
The track & field competition was held from March 28 till 29. The farmer gymnastics (dance) competition and the farm-themed events were held on April 16 and 17.

Most of the events reflected tasks common in rural life, with a strong sense of fun and spectacle. With dozens of lusty contestants, the farm-themed events attracted the most attention.
