Early morning or late afternoon every day of the day, people can be seen exercising in Yichang City. Sport is strongly ingrained in the city's DNA.
"Nowadays, Binjiang Park is the most popular place in Yichang because of the sports and fitness facilities. We can run, ride and play basketball,” said Xu, an Yichang sports fan. Every evening, Xu and his children set off on their bikes with a basketball.
Over the last few years, Yichang has upgraded its sports facilities in preparation for the 16th Hubei Games, taking advantage of the city's spare space to build "gyms" on residents’ doorsteps, offering them easily accessible and inexpensive fitness facilities. Badminton, basketball, table tennis, and other facilities have been built or renovated. Every year, Yichang invests 6.6 million yuan (US$960,000) to install public workout facilities and physical fitness measuring equipment at communities, parks and villages.
In addition, Yichang's riverfront renovation project has made the stretch of land along the Yangtze River more attractive and accessible. It is now the most popular place in the city for runners and joggers.
Sports facilities fit with the Yichang image – a city full of vitality and energy.
