The opening ceremony of the 16th Hubei Games will take place on April 12 at Yichang’s Olympic Sports Stadium. Two significant locations in Yichang have been selected as the torch flame collection sites. The collection began today at Changyang Man site by lighting the "flame of historical culture.”
The "flame of modern civilization" will be lit on Tuesday at the Cut-off Memorial Park of the Three Gorges Dam. The two flames will then converge on Wednesday in Zigui county of Yichang, marking the start of the torch relay.
Changyang Man site has a rich history and represents the cultural source of Yichang. Changyang Man is one of the earliest ancient human beings discovered south of the Yangtze River. The discovery of Changyang Man indicates that the area south of the Yangtze River is the cradle of Chinese culture and a birthplace of the Chinese nation, similar to the Yellow River Basin.
As the "Flame of Modern Civilization" collection site, the Three Gorges Dam epitomizes the advancements made in modern engineering and civilization. It reflects the hard work and wisdom of modern Yichang people. The flame’s collection will demonstrate to the world Yichang people’s “Three Gorges Spirit” of science, cooperation, excellence and endless self-improvement.
