Located in the heart of Yichang City, Xiling District has a long and storied history. It is believed to be the place where the Yellow Emperor’s wife raised silkworms and reeled silk, and where Guo Pu, a scholar during the Jin Dynasty (266~420), completed China's first ever dictionary, "Erya Note.”
Xiling District is the political, cultural and business center of Yichang City, with the world-famous Three Gorges Project headquarter and Gezhouba Water Conservancy Hub Project located in the area. It covers an area of 58.97 square kilometers and as of 2021 the district is home to 533,300 residents.
Named after the magnificent Xiling Gorge, Xiling District boasts beautiful mountains and clear water. The Zhenjiang Pavilion is known as “the greatest building of the Yangtze River.” Sanyou Cave, at the northern side of Xiling Gorge, offers arguably the best cave scenery in the whole Three Gorges area. There are also additional attractions including the peach blossom village and the Riverside Park.
More than 70% of Yichang’s financial institutions and business buildings are located here, with headquarters of many large enterprises like Gezhouba Group and Hubei Qingjiang Hydroelectric Development Co. The region has six municipal-level high-tech enterprises, including one the world’s top 500 enterprises, L'Oreal.
With a three-dimensional transportation system of water, land, air and railway, Xiling District serves as a major transportation hub. Gezhou Dam is located in Xiling district, and the Three Gorges Dam is just 30 kilometers away. Additionally, the Three Gorges Airport has opened more than 20 domestic and international airlines.
