Located in western Hubei is Yichang’s county-level city - Yidu, often referred to as the "Gateway to the Three Gorges" or the "Sichuan-Hubei Gullet."

The city governs 8 towns, 1 township, 1 street, and 2 management committees, with a land area of ​​1,357 square kilometers. By the end of 2021, Yidu City had a registered population of 381,000, with a GDP of 80 billion yuan (US$ 11.46 billion).

Yidu is known as a historical and cultural hub. Many famous poets, such as Li Bai (701-762), Du Fu (712-770), Su Shi (1037-1101) and Lu You (1125-1210), have written poems for the city and its beautiful scenery. Yidu is also the hometown of Yang Shoujing, a famous scholar during the late Qing Dynasty.

The Chengbeixi Ruins in Yidu is more than 7,500 years old. In 196 BC, Yidu established a county system named Yidao. In the year 210, Liu Bei (161-223), the leader of the Shu in Three Kingdoms, set up Yidu County.

Due to a bustling industrial base, the city has a solid economy driven by building materials, chemicals, medicine and electronics.

Eight leading agricultural industrialization enterprises, among which two are at the national level and one is at the provincial level, have been developed in Yidu. They focus on fruit, tea, animal husbandry, vegetables, aquatic products.

Yidu is also one of the first national demonstration zones for the export of horticultural products and tea. Some agricultural brands from Yidu are well known in China and their products are exported to more than ten countries and regions abroad. The brands include Yihong Gongfu tea, natural zinc-rich tea, Songyun organic tea, Boer goat, Guangming mandarin orange and Qingjiang fish.
