Yichang and Söderhamn in Sweden have been sister cities for over a quarter of a century.
Located on Sweden’s east coast, Söderhamn had a population of 25,446 in 2021. The city is famous for its bandy team. Bandy is a type of hockey played on ice.
Friendly exchanges between Yichang and Söderhamn began in 1992, and the sister-city relationship was formally established in October 1994.
The two city governments have worked together to promote exchanges and cooperation in the fields of trade, youth programs, and art and educational exchanges.
To develop the relationship, Yichang sent economic and trade delegations to Söderhamn each year from 1994 to 1996.
There have been multiple youth exchanges over the last 25 years, with more than 10 delegations of students, young people, art groups and teachers visiting each other.
