Foreign trade up 12.8% in H1

Yichang Customs announced that the city’s total foreign trade in the first half of 2024 increased 12.8 percent from the same period last year, reaching 22.29 billion yuan (US$3.07 billion US$). Yichang has exported 17.28 billion yuan worth of goods and services, while imports reached 5.01 billion yuan.

The primary mode is general trade, accounting for nearly 80 percent of total trade value, with a year-on-year growth of 12.3 percent. Processing trade and bonded logistics trade were among other modes that showed growth.

In the first half of the year, Yichang's major trading partners were ASEAN (4.87 billion yuan, up 47 percent year-on-year), the European Union (2.89 billion yuan, up nearly 49 percent) and the United States (2.03 billion yuan, up 56.4 percent).

Among exports, mechanical and electrical products, and labor-intensive products saw significant growth and accounted for a large proportion. Mechanical and electrical product exports accounted for 3.79 billion yuan, growing by 41.5 percent. Labor-intensive products exports make up 2.65 billion yuan, 46 percent higher than a year ago. Agricultural products have maintained stable growth adding up to 1.75 billion yuan, a 15 percent growth from the previous year.

Among import products, Yichang has purchased significantly more consumer goods and mechanical and electrical products than last year. Consumer goods imports totaled 1.08 billion yuan, more than 228 percent higher than the first half of 2023. Mechanical and electrical products imports added up to 950 million yuan, growing by 220 percent.
