The following photos show the scenery of the Yangtze River recorded by American sociologist Sidney D. Gamble (1890-1968) 106 years ago. The silent river has witnessed many changes between the centuries. Nowadays, as spring is in full bloom and a breeze passes over the green shores of the Yangtze River, the city is enjoying the springtime.
Gamble, an avid amateur photographer, began taking photographs in China during his first trip to the country with his family in 1908. He returned three additional times between 1917 to 1932 and continued capturing the daily life of Chinese people.
