A Chinese sturgeon that was stuck in the base of a dredging vessel was rescued and released back into the Yangtze River on April 16 in Zhijiang, Yichang.

Identified by its embedded sonar device, it was an adult sturgeon released into the Yangtze River at a release event in Yichang just four days ago. The sturgeon might have inadvertently entered the dredging vessel's base while chasing small fish.

Thanks to the joint efforts of local fishery authorities, researchers from the China Three Gorges Corporation, and the vessel’s crew, the sturgeon was successfully rescued.

After a health check and necessary treatment, it was returned to the Yangtze River.
