Flocks of falcated ducks were recently spotted foraging for food at Zhijiang Jinhu National Wetland Park. A near-threatened species in China, falcated ducks are listed as a beneficial, economically important, and scientifically valuable terrestrial wildlife protected by the state, according to the Forestry Bureau of China's August 2000 release.

Most of its body plumage is finely vermiculated grey, with long sickle-shaped tertials, which give this species its name. The large head of a male falcated duck is dark green with a white throat. The vent region is patterned yellow, black and white. The female falcated duck is dark brown, with plumage much like a female wigeon. Its long grey bill is an aid to identification.

Due to the improved ecological conditions at Jinhu National Wetland Park in recent years, over 30 species of migratory birds, such as Baer's pochards, black storks, and tundra swans, now regularly winter there.
