In China February 4 was “Lichun”, one of the 24 terms on the Chinese lunisolar calendar. Lichun signifies the beginning of spring. Traditionally, from this day on, nature begins to shrug off winter, everything begins to vigorously return to life – including primroses!

To mark the approach of spring, a grand primrose show will be held in Binjiang Park, Yichang City from February 5 to March 8. More than 100,000 pots of pink, white and yellow primrose flowers will adorn Binjiang Park throughout the show period.

Botanists note that, in 1880, a primula specimen named "Hubei Primula" traveled from Yichang to the United Kingdom where it rapidly became a very popular ornamental plant.

Yichang produces nearly 40 percent of China’s primrose seedlings, and the flowers are sold all across the nation.

Entry to the Binjiang Park show is free.
