Have you heard of "Ox Liver and Horse Lung Gorge" in Yichang?

This 4.5-kilometer-long marvel is nestled inside the Xiling Gorge on the Yangtze River. Its name comes from the peculiar shapes of two rocks adorning the craggy northern bank, resembling ox livers and horse lungs – nature's own masterpieces of strange stalactite growths.

As the Jiuwan Stream merges with the majestic Yangtze River, yellow-brown rocks come into view, hanging gracefully and crafting a surreal landscape. For centuries, these weirdly-shaped rocks have been a scenic sight.

The ox liver rock proudly stands in its unique form, while the horse lung rock carries a historical tale. During the late Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), a British gunboat that had intruded into this part of China fired on the Horse Lung, destroying the lower half of it.

Despite this assault, the gorge persists as a tribute to the enduring beauty of nature.
