Machines do the work in citrus industry

Have you ever seen “robots”, “tanks”, and “trains” in an orchard? This isn’t science fiction, it’s happening in Yichang!

Yichang is one of China’s major citrus producing areas. However, most of the citrus is grown in mountainous areas. In the past, the highly labor-intensive nature of the orange growing industry limited its development. Now, agricultural machinery has changed the game.

In Yiling District, locals use robot arms to pick the fruit. In Zigui, farmers use drip irrigation “tanks” to water and fertilize the fruit trees. When the oranges are ripe, they slither down the sides of the hills to the stockpile point on monorails.
