A male house sparrow (passer domesticus) was recently observed in Juanqiaohe Wetland Park in Yichang City, the first recorded sighting of this species in Hubei Province.

The House Sparrow is native to large parts of Asia, most of Europe and the Mediterranean. It has an average length of 16 cm and weighs between 24-39.5 grams.

There are three subspecies of house sparrows in China. They thrive in parts of the far west and northeast regions of China. However, in recent years, its presence has gradually expanded to provinces such as Shaanxi, Sichuan, Yunnan, and Guangxi.

More recently, sightings have been recorded in the northeastern parts of Zhejiang, Hainan and Jiangxi, suggesting a southeastward expansion of the house sparrow's distribution.
