Sixteen contestants from tea businesses took part in a black tea-making contest in Zigui County, Yichang City, an area known for tea cultivation.
Zigui's Jiuwan silk wadding tea was once offered to the royal family in the Qing Dynasty's Qianlong Period (1736-1795). The tea is characterized by its "high fragrance, sweet taste, and long-lasting brew." It is rich in beneficial trace elements such as zinc and selenium, which are good for the human body. As of 2022, almost 100,000 farmers yield silk wadding tea of over 8,100 tonnes annually.
Local tea companies utilize summer and autumn tea leaves to create black and yellow tea, supporting farmers in boosting their earnings.
