Qixi Festival, also known as Chinese Valentine's Day, is celebrated on the seventh day of the seventh month of the lunar calendar (August 22 in 2023 according to the Gregorian calendar).
In traditional China, this festival – originally known as “Qiqiao Festival” (Praying for Needlework Skills Festival) or “The Daughter's Festival” – was an important day for girls and young women. In the evening, they would pray for excellent needlework skills, because needlework symbolizes the traditional talents of a good spouse.
Later the Festival became associated with love and the legend of the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl. Nowadays, people celebrate love and affection on this special day.
