Zigui County, located in the Three Gorges Reservoir area, is a major orange planting hub in China with a planting area of around 400,000 mu (26,667 hectares) and an annual output of over 1 million tons.
However, with 70% of its area being mountainous, the county has long required significant amounts of manpower to transport the harvested oranges from orchards to main roads where logistics parks reside, which has been inefficient and costly.
In recent years, the county has explored new ways of transporting oranges such as utilizing aerial ropeways and single and double-track ground transporters, replacing manpower with machinery. These new methods have made it possible for oranges to move throughout the Three Gorges quickly and helped fruit farmers to increase their income.
