During this early summer season, the finless porpoises in the downstream waters of the Gezhouba Dam in Yichang City have been displaying unusually high levels of activity. Frolicking and foraging in the water, these adorable creatures have earned themselves the nickname “Smiling Angels.” As the flagship species of the Yangtze River ecosystem, the finless porpoises, along with 64 other wild animals, were promoted from national second-level protected wildlife to first-level in February 2021.

We are delighted to share this heartwarming news with the international community. The finless porpoises, known for their playful nature, bring joy to the waters of Yichang. As they swim and frolic, they showcase the beauty and resilience of the Yangtze River's ecological chain.
