The Yichang Grand Theater

The Yichang Grand Theater is easily recognized by its fluid exterior, appearing like an art center floating in the air. It is located at the junction of the Yangtze and Huangbai rivers and will become an iconic addition to the city's skyline once completed in December 2024.
According to the design team, OPEN Architecture, which is made of an international team of architects, the fluid form of the grand theater reflects the movement and energy of the city's water, mountains, clouds and mist.
"The design draws inspirations from the spirit of water that defines the city of Yichang," said Li Hu, co-founder of OPEN. "Water may seem soft yet it can have infinite strength—just read the gorges carved by the mighty river. Water is the soul of this unique city."
