Quince Festival in Changyang Tujia Autonomous County

The 17th Quince Festival opened to visitors yesterday in Langping Town, Changyang Tujia Autonomous County, Yichang City.

Langping Town styles itself as the "hometown of Chinese medicinal quince fruit". Chinese quince fruit has been grown in the area for centuries.

The quince fruit grown here are used in Chinese medicine and can also be eaten. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, this fruit was already being exported to Southeast Asia and Africa.

Langping Town cultivates 100,000 mu (about 6,700 hectares) of quince fruit, producing 100,000 tons of fresh fruit and 8,000 tons of dried fruit each year, with an annual output value of 180 million yuan ($26.3 million). The dried fruit can be processed on site.
