Discovering the beauty of Wujiagang District

Wujiagang District is located in east Yichang city, at the junction of the Yangtze River’s upper and middle reaches. The district serves as a transportation hub and logistics center. Wujiagang was enrolled as one of Yichang’s main districts in 1986 and is included in Yichang’s five central districts. The name is derived from the Wu family who was known for practicing medicine in the area around a century ago.
 
Wujiagang is home to 336,300 permanent residents as of 2021. Moreover, it comprises of 2,399.26 hectares of forest, covering 28.30 percent of its total area.
 
The district is renowned for its tourist attractions such as the Nature Tower, Lighthouse Square, Yiling Yangtze River Bridge and Binjiang Park. Among those, Nature Tower is included in the list of "Major historical and cultural sites protected at the national level.”
 
As an old industrial base of Yichang City, Wujiagang has a high-quality foundation of infrastructure and the district accounts for 70 percent of Yichang’s total industrial output. As a top company in the area, Angel Yeast have exported products to 155 countries and regions, with sales ranking No.1 in Asia and No.2 in the world, next only to Lesaffre of France.
 
In 2021, the GDP of Wujiagang totaled 38.462 billion yuan (US$ 5.52 billion), an increase of 19.5 percent over the previous year. The per capita disposable income of urban residents stood at 44,520 yuan, up 10.7 percent year-on-year.
 
In October 2019, Wujiagang was selected as one of the National Top 100 New Urbanization Quality Districts.
