The Yangtze River Basin is a region of great significance to the development of ancient Chinese poetry.

Yichang, a city along the river, boasts a long history and rich cultural heritage. It is the hometown of Qu Yuan (c. 340 BC - 278 BC) and Wang Zhaojun (born c. 50 BC), and has inspired many renowned poets and writers throughout history.

The video series "Ode to the Yangtze River: Poetic Journey through Yichang" explores the landscape and culture of Yichang as part of the greater Yangtze River Basin.

The focus of Episode 1 is Ouyang Xiu (1007-1072), a famous Chinese statesman, essayist, poet, and historian of the Song Dynasty.

Ouyang Xiu once served as a county magistrate (head of county) of Yiling (present-day Yichang), where he composed numerous poems.

Part 2 explores the deep connection between Ouyang Xiu and Yichang, highlighting his deep appreciation for citrus fruits and fine tea, as well as his literary and political achievements, with Yichang serving as a pivotal influence.
