Sanlu Embroidery: A Cultural Heritage Passed Down for Centuries

Sanlu Embroidery is a traditional craft that involves embroidering decorative designs onto flat cotton cloth. It originated during the Han Dynasty over 2,000 years ago and has been passed down through generations.

The name of this embroidery craft is closely linked to Qu Yuan (c. 340 BC – 278 BC), a renowned patriot, poet, and politician in ancient China. Qu held the title of Sanlu Da Fu of the State of Chu and governed the Lepingli area in Sanlu, which is now known as Quyuan Town in Zigui County, Yichang.

In this video, reporter Chen Si takes viewers on a visit to a workshop dedicated to preserving the intangible cultural heritage of Sanlu Embroidery in Zigui County.

She immerses herself in the embroidery culture and explores its impact on the local community. Under the guidance of Cheng Wei, an inheritor of the intangible cultural heritage of Sanlu Embroidery, she learns how to embroider intricate floral and leaf designs. Cheng patiently guides her through each step of the process.
