Shore power makes shipping greener

The electricity provided to ships via Yichang's shore power system has exceeded 30 million kWh, equivalent to the daily electricity consumption of 11.4 million people.
Yichang established the Three Gorges Dam Shore Power Experimental Zone in 2018. By 2020, all 63 commercial ports and two anchorages in the Yichang section of the Yangtze River were equipped with shore power charging facilities.
Nearly 28,000 passenger and cargo ships have utilized this service, resulting in a reduction of over 26,000 tons of emissions and cost savings of more than 40 million yuan (US$5.56 million) for the ships.
