Navel Oranges Catch Up to China's Speed

In the old days, the mouth-watering navel oranges for which Zigui county in Yichang is famed had to be carried down the mountain on people’s backs, step after weary step. Today the locals speed them down to the stockpile point by monorail.
The county has installed 1,700 monorails in the citrus plantations. They can carry 300 kilograms at a time. All together, these monorails cover a distance of 320,000 meters, or 320 km, equal to the distance from Yichang to Wuhan!
According to Zigui county statistics, 40,000 hectares of orchard benefit from this modern transport system. Fruit trains whistling down through the orange groves is a sight to behold.
