Chen Jinliang, deputy director of the Hubei Dalaoling National Nature Reserve Administration, is a native of Inner Mongolia with a PhD in wildlife conservation from Beijing Forestry University. This is his fifteenth year in Yichang and eleventh year working in the Dalaoling Nature Reserve.

In Dalaoling, everyone calls him Dr. Chen, but his nickname is "Doc Forest". Officials in charge of the protection and development of forest and grassland resources are designated “forest chiefs” by the Chinese government. They are responsible for targets in areas such as forest coverage, forest stock volume and desertification measures.

The Dalaoling Nature Reserve, located at the borders of Yichang’s Yiling District, Xingshan County and Zigui County, covers 14,225 hectares, with forest coverage of 98 percent.

The reserve is a forest ecosystem. Forestry teams are tasked with protecting not just the mid-subtropical forest ecosystem, but also endangered wildlife and plant resources and their habitats, as well as the landscape.

In July 2017, the Dalaoling Nature Reserve became a national nature reserve.

This video depicts the work of forestry teams in the nature reserve from the perspective of Chen's daughter.
