Yichang has unveiled its new slogan for 2023: “Yichang, the electrifying city.”
Even though Yichang’s jurisdiction sprawls over several huge counties, Greater Yichang still only represents 0.2% of Chinese territory. And yet it boasts 7% of the country’s installed hydropower capacity.
Yichang is home to the Three Gorges Project, the world’s largest hydropower complex that spans the Yangtze River. The project has spawned a massive clean energy corridor with multiple renewable energy projects. The corridor connects six power stations with a total installed capacity of 71.7 million kilowatts, equivalent to three times the capacity of the Three Gorges Dam.
The city’s green credentials have attracted entrepreneurs and talents from around the globe, who have invested in eco-friendly industries in various sectors.
As a result, Yichang’s economy has reached new heights, with total output of over 550 billion yuan in 2022. The city currently has more than a thousand active 100 million yuan+ projects.
