Yichang Museum covers history, nature, folklore and ancient architecture. Its striking "Window to History" design integrates elements of Ba and Chu history and culture from almost 3000 years ago.
In terms of scale and investment, the museum stands out among museums in prefecture-level cities in Hubei Province and even the central region of China.
The main building area of Yichang Museum covers 43,080 square meters, with 15,247 square meters of exhibition. There are almost 60,000 pieces or collections, including 2,555 pieces of precious cultural relics.
The museum is divided into basic exhibits, thematic exhibits and special exhibits, with nine sub-themes in total.
Basic exhibits: Ancient Xiling, Ba & Chu of Yiling, History of Xiazhou, Modern Yichang
Thematic Exhibits: Colorful Three Gorges, Memories of an Ancient City
Special Exhibits: Digital Exhibition Hall, Separation of the Sky from the Earth, Nature (Behring Hall)
The Ba and Chu culture exhibits demonstrate Yichang’s long history and multiple layers of culture. The geological and topographical features of Yichang, and its modern hydropower facilties, are also presented. The museum also fulfills a social function as an educational base.
