Overview of the "Two Dams and One Gorge"

"Two Dams and One Gorge,” which refers to the Gezhouba Dam, the Three Gorges Dam, and Xiling Gorge, has become an essential part of visitor’s travel itineraries.

Passing through the Gezhouba ship locks and experiencing the rising water system is an amazing part of the journey.

Gezhouba Dam, the first large-scale water control project constructed on the Yangtze River, began operation in 1981.

As the tourist vessel slowly enters the ship lock, passengers have about 8 minutes to observe the water level change until it reaches its maximum height.

One of the highlights of “Two Dams and One Gorge” is witnessing the Three Gorges Dam, the world's largest hydropower project. The dam has received over 10 million tourists in the past five years.

In the first six months of 2023, more than 1.5 million people visited the area, a record high.

On the trip, tourists can visit three main attractions within the dam tourist area.

The first is Tanziling, named after its top viewing platform, which is shaped like an upside-down wine jar. Just over 260 meters above sea level, it is the best spot for panoramic views of the Three Gorges Project.
 
Platform 185 gets its name from the fact that its elevation is equal to the height of the top of the Three Gorges Dam. It is the best viewing point for the Three Gorges Ship Lifter.

Cut-off Memorial Park, located downstream of the Three Gorges Dam, is the first water engineering theme park in China. It has been open since 2005, and is a great place to take in the downstream landscape of the Three Gorges Dam.
 
Boarding the Yangtze River Cruise, you can pass by the endless green hills surrounding Xiling Gorge.

Xiling Gorge is often said to be the most spectacular section among the three gorges of the Yangtze River, the other two being the Qutang and Wu gorges. 

The Three Gorges Indigenous Scenic Area is here, surrounded by mountains and rivers, with a picturesque scenery.

There are six "Three Gorges" cruise ships that carry tourists through the Yangtze River scenery, including the Yangtze River Three Gorges 1, which is the world's largest electric cruise ship.

The cruise ship offers a variety of special services, including dining, live music and more.


Two ways to experience “Two Dams and One Gorge”

Itinerary 1:
•Go to the meeting point (Three Gorges Tourist Center) at 07:30 for the cruise
•Depart on the cruise at 08:30
•Pass by Gezhouba Dam
•Go through Xiling Gorge
•Get off at 12:30
•After lunch, transfer by bus to visit Three Gorges Dam
•Return to Three Gorges Tourist Center around 16:30

Itinerary 2:
•Go to the meeting point (Yichang East Railway Station) at 07:40 for the bus
•Visit Three Gorge Dam
•After lunch, take a cruise through Xiling Gorge
•Pass by the Gezhouba Dam
•Return to the Three Gorges Tourist Center at 17:30

Location and Transportation to “Two Dams and One Gorge”

If you arrive at Yichang Sanxia Airport, you can take the airport bus to Yichang East Railway Station, and then transfer to bus B1 and arrive at the Wujia District Branch of Yichang Three Gorges Central People's Hospital Station. From there, walk about 375 meters to the Three Gorges Tourist Center.
