Overview of the Hometown of Qu Yuan Tourist Area
The hometown of Qu Yuan can be found close by the Three Gorges Dam. Located at the new county seat of Zigui, it has a stunning view of the gorges, spectacular lakes created by the construction of the Three Gorges Dam, and numerous islands.
Before construction of the dam raised the water levels, 24 cultural sites in the Three Gorges area were moved to the new county seat of Zigui, including the Qu Yuan Memorial Hall, Qu Yuan Culture and Art Center, Three Gorges Ancient Residential Area and Waterfront Viewing Trail.
Qu Yuan (c. 340 BC – 278 BC), one of the greatest patriotic poets and politicians in ancient China, was born in Lepingli in what is now Zigui County. As a politician, he rose to become Prime Minister of the State of Chu but was dismissed for calumny.
In 278 BC, when Qin captured the capital of Chu, he drowned himself in the Miluo River. Author of the famous poems "Li Sao" (Tales of Woe), "Tian Wen" (Heavenly Questions), "Jiu Zhang" (Nine Pieces), and "Jiu Ge" (Nine Tunes), Qu was named a “World Cultural Celebrity” by UNESCO in 1953.
During the day, tourists can visit the Qu Yuan Memorial Hall and the Ancient Residence in the Gorge and River area. They may also rent a set of Hanfu (traditional clothing of the Han Chinese) in the "four trees" stage and participate in a traditional Chinese-style garden party.
At night, a lantern show and performances can be found in the tourist area. There is also a barbecue and tents to enjoy the breeze of the Yangtze River, drink beer, and immerse yourself into the beautiful night view of the dam and Zigui County.
The tourist area has a shuttle bus service priced at 10 yuan per person. The shuttle bus service is not included in the price of the tourist area ticket.

From Yichang Sanxia Airport
If you arrive at Yichang by air, you can take the airport bus to the Yichang Passenger Transport Center Station, then choose Bus No.809 or drive to Qu Yuan's hometown.
From Yichang East Railway Station
Take Bus No.809 from Yichang Passenger Transport Center Station to Zigui County, get off at Fenghuang Mountain (凤凰山) Station, and walk 500 meters to the entrance of the tourist area.

You can drive from Yichang City to the hometown of Qu Yuan via the Over-the-Dam Expressway（翻坝高速）. (Approximately 40 minutes)
