Three scenic spots in Yichang were included in a newly released national support list, which will help better preserve their cultural heritages.
China Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Association, an NGO under China’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism, recently published 2022 National Intangible Cultural Heritage and Tourism Integrated Development Project List. Three Gorges Indigenous Scenic Area, Chexi Folk Scenic Area and Three Gorges Intangible Cultural Heritage Lane from Yichang were included in the 200-item list. The list consists of four intangible cultural heritage categories: scenic spots, small towns, city blocks as well as tourism projects.
The association will provide media publicity, talent training programs, funds and brand building resources to the projects on the list. The news adds new momentum in Yichang’s efforts to become an attractive tourism destiny.
Three Gorges Indigenous Scenic Area is in Xiling Gorge, a magnificent section of the Three Gorges of Yangtze River. Surrounded by mountains and rivers, it showcases traditional rural residences, lifestyle and customs – colorful and tranquil.
Deeply rooted in the Ba and Chu cultures that flourished between the Western Zhou (c. 1045–771 BC) and early Western Han (202 BC–9 AD) dynasties, the area reflects the traditions and flavor of the original Three Gorges culture.
Chexi Folk Scenic Spot is located in Tucheng Township, Dianjun District. The scenic spot uses advanced technologies to enhance tourists’ experience in visiting the place, and offers great performances based on local cultural heritages.
The Three Gorges Intangible Cultural Heritage Lane is in Dianjun District. It integrates preservation of intangible cultural heritage with the development of tourism and local economy. Tourists can see how people live harmoniously in an environment full of cultural heritage elements.
