The long scroll depicts the Chinese sturgeon, finless porpoise and other rare fish found in the Yangtze River. Each fish has been enlarged and printed out as a separate panel for the exhibition.

Wang, 24, is a postgraduate student at China Three Gorges University where he is mentored by He Guangqing. Over a period of 18 months, he visited a number of wetland parks and the Chinese Sturgeon Research Institute in Yichang and then sketched all the fish.

"I hope the illustrations will encourage people to pay attention to the rare fish in the Yangtze River. We need to protect our mother river, we need to act as guardians of the Yangtze River," Wang said.
Wang is also expert at painting birds.
He paints these beautiful creatures using traditional Chinese realistic techniques. His "100 Endangered Bird Species" booklet is part of the Yangtze River Ecology Protection Booklet Collection, which depicts 100 National Class-I and -II species in the Yangtze River Basin.
The Yangtze River Science Popularization Exhibition of rare fish and bird paintings is an event during Yichang’s 2023 City Brand Promotion Week. It will go on tour to neighboring cities to spread its message about the importance of protecting the Yangtze River.
