More than 1,400 people were in attendance at the opening ceremony for the 11th Paralympic Games of Hubei Province on May 10 at the Yichang Sports Centre Stadium.
The event was divided into two parts: the main ceremony and a large-scale cultural show.
During the first part of the ceremony, 17 delegations gathered in the center.
As Yichang is a riverside city and has 2 minority autonomous counties, the cultural show focused on the Yangtze River, finless porpoise and local ethnic characteristics. The show celebrated the participants of the games for being brave enough to follow their dreams toward a brighter future.
As the current largest sports event for people with disabilities in Hubei, the Paralympic Games has a total of seven major competing categories - table tennis, badminton, Chinese chess, athletics, swimming, dryland curling and Special Olympics roller skating, and 583 small events with a total of 783 disabled athletes.
The closing ceremony will be held on May 12.
