Yichang sees influx of tourists for May Day holiday

Tourism in Yichang experienced a boom during the five-day May Day holiday that ended this Wednesday.

More than six million visitors visited Yichang over the five-day period, an increase of nearly 53 percent on pre-pandemic 2019. Total tourism revenue reached 4.15 billion yuan (US$6 million), up almost 150 percent on 2019.



National A-class tourist attractions in Yichang received a total of 1.13 million visitors, an increase of about 40 percent compared with 2019 before the COVID-19 outbreak, chalking up income of 74 million yuan. The Three Gorges Dam received 126,000 visitors and earned 4.41 million yuan; The Three Gorges Indigenous Scenic Area received nearly 89,000 visitors and earned 11.86 million yuan.



Sales in Yichang's top 10 commercial complexes reached almost 145 million yuan during the five-day period.

Six key non-star hotels, including Yichang Guomao Hotel and Hubei Licheng Chain Hotel, notched up 5-day business income of about 4.95 million yuan, with an average occupancy rate of 85.92 percent.
