May Day holiday preparations in Yichang

The May Day holiday is around the corner, and will be the first long May Day holiday since the outbreak of COVID-19 as well as the first since China lifted many of the pandemic control measures. Many people are busy planning trips to enjoy long overdue travel. Yichang, as a famous tourist city in China is taking various measures to welcome the potential visitors.
The 2023 May Day holiday railway transportation period will occur from April 27 to May 4, lasting eight days. The Wuhan Railway Administration, which oversees railway operations in Yichang, is expected to send a total of 6.08 million passengers, with a daily average of 760,000 passengers, essentially recovering to the levels seen in 2019 during the same period.
During the peak passenger flow period from April 28 to April 30 and from May 2 to May 4, the railway administration plans to add 28 pairs of nighttime high-speed trains to boost capacity, including 17 pairs traveling through Yichang, Xiangyang, Shiyan and other directions.
Yichang Three Gorges Airport will increase the number of routes between Beijing, Shenzhen and other cities. It is anticipated that during the May Day holidays, the Three Gorges Airport will serve 47,000 passengers.
According to the ticket sales system, flights to Yichang from Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen will have a large number of passengers. The passenger occupancy rate is expected to reach over 85 percent.
As the traditional national holiday policy goes, all toll roads will be free for passenger vehicles with seven or fewer seats from 0:00 on April 29 through mid-night on May 3.
During the holiday, Yichang will also hold sports and recreational activities across the city.
The 2023 Yichang Marathon will kick off at 7:30 am on April 30, starting at Yichang Peace Park and ending at Binjiang Park for the full marathon (42.195 km) and half marathon (21.0975 km). The health run (10 km) will end at Wujiagang Primary School, and the mini run (4.2 km) at Wangjiahe Park.
On April 30, Yichang City will hold a firework show at 8 pm to celebrate the arrival of the May Day holiday and welcome tourists to the city.
Yuan'an Leizu Music Festival will be held from April 30 to May 1 at Yuan'an Peach Blossom Island Ecological Park, where people can enjoy music, camping, a creative bazaar and plenty of food options.
From April 29 to May 3, Yuquan Mountain Guanling Scenic Area will hold the Huaxi Camping Music Festival. People can visit Dangyang City to enjoy the food and music.
