The “Jing’an-Yiling” tourist train from Shanghai with over 300 tourists aboard arrived in Yichang Monday afternoon, marking the start of a five-day sightseeing trip for these passengers.

The tourist-dedicated train route debuted in 2021 but had to be suspended in 2022 due to COVID-19. It has been reinstated as tourism between Shanghai and Hubei province gets back on its feet.

Featuring “high-speed rail + tourist attractions + countryside tourism”, the “Jing’an-Yiling” tour route includes top Yichang tourist sites such as the Three Gorges Dam and the Three Gorges grand waterfalls. During the five-day trip, tourists can also experience Tujia culture and observe water conservancy projects at Qingjiang Gallery.

Special lanes were set up at Yichang East railway station to better serve the visitors, according to station head Lei Zusheng.

"I’m looking forward to the Three Gorges Dam, the scenery, and the local food,” a tourist surnamed Ji said.

Yiling District in Central China’s Hubei and Jing’an District in East China’s Shanghai have been working together for 31 years, collaborating in a variety of fields including education, industry, and tourism.

From 2020 to 2022, Shanghai invested 162 million yuan (USD 23.5 million) in 83 construction projects in Yiling and will continue to invest in a number of projects this year.
