Deng Ronghua participated in Yichang’s first 2023 Vertical Building Challenge on Sunday. The former factory worker’s love for marathon running came as an accident. Now, she’s been running marathons for seven years and has become a staff member of a sports company in Wuhan.

In 2016, Deng was 30 years old and working at Wuhan’s Foxconn while also being the mother to two children. By chance, she participated in a race organized by the company. As just an amateur runner, Deng ended up winning third place.

At that time, it was quite stressful to both go to work and take care of children. Deng had not found a way to relieve the pressure of life until that race. Once experiencing how running could improve her mood and help to relax, she fell in love with the sport.

With additional training, Deng began to gain more confidence and started participating in marathons.

She has achieved many good results while running in Yichang. "Yichang is a tourist city, and I'm happy to participate in the marathon held here and be able to visit the beautiful scenery while competing,” she said.

The first 2023 Yichang Vertical Building Challenge, held at Yichang International Plaza, is the first national building vertical challenge to be held in the region. It consisted of two groups: the challenge group and the experience group. The challenge group, which is more difficult, finished on the 45th floor, ascending total height of 218 meters and 1,200 steps. The easier experience group finished on the 25th floor, ascending a total height of 125 meters and 666 steps.
