The "Three-Year Action Plan for Building a Model City for Yangtze River Protection (2023-2025) in Yichang City" was officially issued on April 7. The plan focuses on promoting the ecological protection and restoration of the Yangtze River, enhancing the city’s beauty, developing a green and low-carbon industrial system, and improving both the environment and quality of life for those in the area.
On the same day, Hubei’s volunteer service activities group held a launch party for their 2023 "Care for Mountains and Rivers" initiative. The event took place in Zigui County, Yichang.
At the ceremony, a representative for the volunteers read out the "Care for Mountains and Rivers" initiative, 10 of Yichang's "Excellent River Guardians" were honored, and Li Chunmei, who was awarded the title of China's "Excellent River Guardians,” shared her experience with the audience.
As the chief of Jiudao River in Yichang’s Baishuigang Village, Li is responsible for 2 km of the Yangtze River, 1 km of the Jiudao River basin and 2 km of the inland river, and is involved in accelerating the upgrading of two bulk cargo terminals and closing four large livestock farms.
At the ceremony, eight volunteer teams accepted their banners and split up to carry out activities such as river bank cleaning, visiting water plants and water source protection.
The volunteer service activity of "Care for Mountains and Rivers" has been carried out for nearly 10 years. The participating volunteers work to guide and motivate more people to care for rivers and raise public awareness on cherishing water resources.
