A ceremony was held in Yiling District to launch the 2023 Yiling Rural Tour and Spring Tea Sales Event at the Three Gorges Tea & Tourism Town on March 29.
The event saw the unveiling of four rural tour routes along with Yiling District’s "Three Gorges Tea & Tourism" industry plan. This was presented through a sitcom-style video where visitors were taken to explore the routes.
Exciting activities including the rural tourism photography exhibition, intangible cultural heritage exhibition, tea ceremony exhibition and spring tea frying were inaugurated during the ceremony.
Hundreds of internet celebrities gathered in Three Gorges Tea & Tourism Town to sell spring tea through live broadcasts on their social media platforms. Enthusiastic responses to their live streaming sessions from online viewers helped to propel the products to the top of the trending list, leading to a sales intention of over 10 million yuan (US$1.45 million).
"With the explosion of rural tourism in recent years, the occupancy rate has increased significantly, with income also rising,” said the owner of a local home-stay.
During the peak season of summer, rural tourism is booming and many homestays are packed, generating an annual income of over 200 thousand yuan. The integration of tea into tourism has increased the income of local residents, providing a sustainable source of income for many tea farmers along the route.
Yiling District has held rural tourism activities for nine consecutive years, as well as created various rural leisure tourism attractions such as farm picking, roaming and flower appreciation, and real-life sightseeing.
In 2022, Yiling District recorded 9.21 million rural tourism visitors, with earnings totaling 15.4 billion yuan (US$2.24 billion).
