China Three Gorges University (CTGU) will hold the 9th Peach Blossom Cultural Festival on March 25. Students from 45 countries will set up booths to show off their national cultures with photos, music, dance and food.
At a previous Peach Blossom Festival, visitors enjoyed learning about the cultures of other countries.
“The festival includes a talent show with both Chinese and foreign students, exhibition booths for cultural exchange, themed activities and competitions, as well as livestreaming. It allows everyone to discover more about each other’s culture and to enjoy an open campus environment,” said Tan Jing, vice president of the CTGU College of International Communications.
The Peach Blossom Cultural Festival has been held by the university every year since 2012.
CTGU has established cooperative relations with more than 170 universities in over 60 countries and regions. There are more than 1,200 international students, nearly 60 percent of whom are from countries along the Belt and Road, such as India, Nepal, Bangladesh and Jordan.
During the Peach Blossom Cultural Festival, the university will provide an information and consultation service for students who want to study abroad.
This year also marks 100 years since the seed was planted from which the university later grew. In 1923, the Chinese Medical Association established a school for medical technicians in Anhui. After several changes, it changed its name and developed into Yichang Medical College, the forerunner of today’s CTGU.
Xiling District, where CTGU is located, is Yichang’s science and education center. To coincide with the festival, the district will launch a photography competition, from March 25 to October 31.
In China, people love peaches and peach blossoms. Peaches are a symbol of longevity in Chinese culture, and peach blossoms are one of the most popular spring flowers in China.
