As an important part of the Three Gorges Big Data Center cluster, the second phase of Dongyuemiao Data Center has been approved, which when completed in December 2024 will add an additional 80,000 racks. The second phase will start trial operation in January 2025.

With an investment of 5.5 billion yuan (US$798 million), the Dongyuemiao Data Center will have a total of 100,000 racks, of which 10,000 racks have already been built during the first phase when it was completed on September 30, 2022.

Located on the right bank of the Three Gorges Dam - the world's largest hydropower station - the center will receive its entire power supply through clean hydropower generated by the dam. Additionally, the project will deploy a water-cooling system to significantly reduce energy consumption and boost energy efficiency.

In recent years, the China Three Gorges Group joined hands with Yichang City to build the Three Gorges Big Data Center cluster, which includes Dongyuemiao Data Center and other centers in the Three Gorges Dam and Gezhouba Dam areas. The cluster is planned to become the largest of its kind in central China. By 2025, the cluster will contain more than 400,000 racks with an investment of 30 billion yuan, making it the largest in Hubei in terms of computing power.
