With more new energy vehicles on the road, and government policies incentivizing development of the industry, China's vehicle charging infrastructure is developing quickly. The number of electric vehicle charging points in Yichang is slated to reach 14,000 in 2023, a boon for electric vehicle owners.
There were 6,000 charging points at the end of 2022, with a further 8,000 expected to be added in 2023.
According to statistics from the Yichang Development and Reform Commission, the city had 23,308 new energy vehicles as of December 2022, with another 1,462 added in January 2023. Sales of new energy vehicles are on the up each year.
Yichang plans to install vehicle charging points in shopping centers, tourist attractions, transportation hubs, public parking lots, on streets and in other places.
On top of that, all new residential parking spaces have to be either equipped with charging infrastructure or to include charging infrastructure in their design.
By 2025, the number of charging points in Yichang is expected to reach 26,000.
