Yichang’s first project to generate electricity by incineration of household waste kicked off this year on February 28th.
Six garbage transfer trucks unloaded the waste smoothly at the site. This waste-to-energy plant will be ready for official ignition and operation this April.

The plant will be able to process 1,500 tons of garbage per day, roughly equivalent to the current daily garbage scale in the main city of Yichang.
The heat gained from waste incineration will be used to generate electricity, which can be used by about 110,000 households in Yichang each year. Generating an equivalent amount of electricity would require 69,000 tons of standard coal and the increased pollution that entails.
According to the head of the project, incoming waste must go through storage, fermentation, and other processes before being incinerated.
All waste transfer stations in the urban areas of Yichang will later be transferred to the project.
