One of the most influential branded poetry events in China will be held in Yichang in the second half of this year, organizers announced in Beijing on Friday.
A news conference about the 39th "Young Poets Conference" was held at the National Museum of Modern Chinese Literature, jointly hosted by Shikan of the China Writers Association and the Yichang Municipal Committee Publicity Department.
Since its launch in 1980, it has become an important platform for young Chinese poets to gain exposure, share their works, and enhance the influence of Chinese poetry.
This year, many prominent figures from the field of poetry and literature will come to Yichang.
Yichang is the hometown of Qu Yuan (c. 340 BC – 278 BC), one of the greatest poets in ancient China.
Considered the founder of romanticism in Chinese literature, he wrote many famous poems, including “Li Sao”, the longest piece of lyric poetry in ancient China. In 1953, Qu Yuan was named a “World Cultural Celebrity” by UNESCO.
The 39th "Youth Poetry Conference" is now calling for submissions of original poems from all over the country. Poets no older than 40 years of age are invited to submit their creations. The closing date for entries is June 30, 2023. All submissions must be sent by post.
