During the 40-day 2023 Spring Festival travel rush period, 1.52 million train trips were made out of Yichang, which is 17.3 percent higher than the previous year; and the airport handled about 310,000 air trips, up 31 percent from a year ago. Both set new record highs over the past three years.

The Spring Festival travel rush, also known as "Chunyun," lasted from January 7 to February 15 this year, during which Chinese people collectively made 4.73 billion trips to reunite with their families for the Lunar New Year, which fell on January 22 this year.

From January 7 until the Chinese New Year Eve, the Yichang Railway Station had already sent approximately 373,000 passengers. After the festival, 1.15 million passengers were sent in 25 days, during which the busiest day was January 27, when 73,000 passengers were sent.

During the period, the Yichang railway service sent 1.5 million tons of cargo, nearly the same as last year.

Additionally, Yichang Three Gorges Airport handled 3,122 flights during the same period, up 17.3 percent from last year. From January 26 till 29 (the fifth to the eighth day of the Lunar New Year), the airport posted a 10,000+ daily passenger flow for four consecutive days, marking a strong rebound in traffic.
