More than 50,000 Yichang citizens donated blood in 2022

More than 50,000 Yichang citizens in Yichang City voluntarily donated blood last year, according to statistics from the Yichang Central Blood Station. The total amount of blood donated reached 17 million milliliters while the total amount of platelets reached 5,395 standard bags (in China, a standard bag of platelets contains 250-300ml of platelet-rich plasma with platelet concentration ≥2.5×10¹¹/L), which increased by nearly 8 percent, setting a new record high. 
 

Among last year’s donors, about 64 percent donated 400ml of blood in a single donation, and about 30 percent donated 300ml in a single donation. 
 

Of all donated blood used at clinic scenarios last year, 45 percent were used in ICU, 30 percent were used in hematology treatment, and the remainder was used in surgery.
 

Type O blood is the most in demand at 33 percent, followed by Type A (32 percent), Type B (26 percent), and Type AB (9 percent).
